Sam and Katie chat with Maddi Costanzo. Maddi has played soccer at an elite level since the beginning of high school, competing across Europe and the U.S. She was on track to go pro but suffered an ACL injury during a game, requiring extensive rehab. A few years later, after returning to the field and performing well, Maddi experienced another ACL injury. However, she turned this setback into a positive by completing several courses to develop a holistic understanding of health and fitness. Now, Maddi coaches large groups of younger kids in areas such as strength, nutrition, and mental health.
Maddi decided to take up running, heavily influenced by her best mate, Tom Baker, who has been training for marathons for a few years. She is now signed up for the Gold Coast Marathon and plans to rely on her experiences to help structure her training program.
Katie kicks off the week with a solid 123 km of running, leaning on the JT Running Group sessions to keep her paces controlled. Sam covers all bases this week with strong workouts, three strength sessions, and a two-hour long run to round things off. Maddi enjoys a bit of a rest period on the Gold Coast but still manages to fit in a few runs and continues her usual hard work in the gym.
